Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Experimental Physics

The Position

California State University Chico is seeking a tenure track Experimental Physicist to begin August 2016, at the assistant or associate professor level. Our department is committed to providing the very best undergraduate education in physics; we seek a colleague to join our team in this mission. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in all levels of undergraduate physics teaching and, in particular, the ability to actively involve undergraduates in research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics, with demonstrated experience in experimental physics. Proficiency in written and oral English is required. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, the doctorate must be complete prior to the beginning of the academic year (August, 2016.) Candidates must show high potential for providing undergraduates with research experiences and strong commitment to undergraduate education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with the skills and knowledge to contribute to experimental efforts within the College of Natural Sciences and the University are of particular interest to us, as are candidates with the ability to work effectively in a small department with limited campus resources.

Responsibilities:

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching at the undergraduate level (this is primary), scholarship and professional development, and service to the Department, University and community. Part of the teaching duties will include teaching core upper-division physics courses.

Salary:

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Department:

The department of Physics offers a B.S. and a minor in physics, with program tracks tailored to students interested in pursuing interdisciplinary/educational careers or physics-related paths including graduate study in physics or other disciplines. Our roughly 40 majors come from a wide variety of backgrounds and levels of preparation. We have an active, award-winning SPS chapter and a collegial departmental atmosphere.
