Mon., 21 Aug., Introduction to software: applications, operating systems, etc.
Mon., 28 Aug., Introduction to Excel and Interactive Data Language (IDL).
Mon., 04 Sep., Labor day. No class.
Mon., 11 Sep., Plotting a function: the barometric law (in both Excel and IDL)
Mon., 18 Sep., Reading ASCII files: US Standard Atmosphere temperature profile (in both Excel and IDL)
Mon., 25 Sep., Continue with reading ASCII with sample time-series data file. Introduce Julian dates and time/date axis in IDL.
Mon., 02 Oct., Class canceled.
Mon., 09 Oct., Plotting two time-series on one graph with dual axes, legends.
Mon., 16 Oct., Reading and plotting a radiosonde sounding. Begin use of for-loops and if-statements.
Mon., 23 Oct., Student presentations of data files for term projects. Then, work in lab on writing programs to read those files.
Mon., 30 Oct., Using the openr and readf commands to read an ASCII file line by line. Also, while-loops and string manipulation commands.
Mon., 06 Nov., SETs. Then work on term projects.
Mon., 13 Nov., Creating signal and noise. Smooth function. Surface, contour, and colorbar functions. Also, creating square waves from sine waves.
Mon., 20 Nov., Thanksgiving week. No class.
Mon., 27 Nov., Work in computer lab on term projects.
Mon., 04 Dec., Student final presentations.
Week of 11 - 15 Dec., Final Exam week.
