Sensor: load cell for weighing type rain gage
Summary: This digital weighing bucket precipitation gauge will be able to measure the volume and intensity of rainfall over time throughout a given storm event. It consists of a Bolsen Digital Load Cell, an HX711 signal amplifier, an Arduino Due microcontroller, a data shield with an SD port to collect data, and a catchment device to hold the collected rainfall. The load cell utilizes four resistors that transform a force into a millivoltage that is then amplified by the HX711 amplifier to be recorded by the SD card within the data shield. The force is expressed in grams and using the density of water (1g/mL), we are able to deduce the volume of precipitation per unit time and identify patterns of rainfall throughout a precipitation event.
