Sensor: Garmin LIDAR-Lite Optical Distance Sensor
Summary: This project is working to characterize the performance of the Garmin LIDAR-Lite V3 as it relates to conducting stream stage measurements. Stream stage is used in conjunction with a developed rating curve to estimate discharge, which has numerous applications in fields such as water resource management and pollution remediation. LIDAR-based methods of obtaining flow measurements are novel in the field and may provide a quick and affordable way of increasing gauging density. The project is interested in evaluating the accuracy and precision of measurements as stream conditions change, specifically; distance, turbidity, and surface roughness.
