Torques During the Ball-Bat Collision

The ball hits above the center of the bat. There is some downward frictional force on the ball causing a torque to give it backspin. The Third Law requires and upward frictional force on the bat creating a torque that causes it rotate. You might also notice the ball is seriously deformed during the collision.
